Speeches from Universal Credit Roundtable with Minister Stephen Timms

The DWP are currently undertaking an internal Universal Credit (UC) review.

Changing Realities were invited to a UC roundtable with Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, Sir Stephen Timms, and members of his team.

The roundtable meeting followed on from a sustained programme of engagement that Changing Realities has been doing with the DWP team leading on the Universal Credit review. This has included the Minister and colleagues posing video-elicited 'big questions' about the thematic areas of the review, and Changing Realities sharing all responses with the review team.

In parallel, Changing Realities has been working in partnership with The Resolution Foundation to develop co-produced policy recommendations for the UC Review. The report from this will be published week commencing 26th January.

The roundtable was generously hosted by The Resolution Foundation, and eight Changing Realities participants were supported by the CR/CPAG team. Here you can read the participants' prepared speeches, each of which led to fruitful discussions with the Minister and included an active listening to experts-by-experience's suggestions for change.

The themes covered include: Improving income stability; Smoothing interactions with work; and Centralising trust and dignity.
